The 12th Day of Thankfulness

"Thanks to you and all who have participated in 12.12.12!

Blessed are those who are generous, because they feed the poor (Proverb 22).

Your continuing inspiration encourages us to see others with eyes of love. I truly believe that with education, advocacy and the collaborative services needed, local hunger will someday be eradicated."

Most gratefully,
Lynne Butler
Executive Director

"Thank you all for the mounds of food brought in from 12.12.12. Your efforts were essential in raising the food and funds needed to continue our fight against hunger. From the families and all of us at Metro CareRing, thank you for your generous and faithful support!"

Best Regards,

Ellie Agar
Volunteer & Community Relations Manager

"Combined with what you've collected in-house, your contributions make for a substantial gift!!  Again, thank you so much for all your support this holiday season.

Gratefully,
Ryan Galanaugh
Deputy Director

Thank you for a wonderful year from all of us at Metro CareRing! MCR is the largest hunger relief organization serving families in Denver, and the amazing work done in 2012 was possible because of your support. We rely on faith communities and individuals for a quarter of our income and would not be able to open our doors without your volunteer assistance. Thank you again and we hope you will keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we begin this new year!

Here are some highlights from 2012:
  • 153,457 services provided to 19,141 families in need
  • 804 volunteers completing 32,258 hours
  • 1,064,256lbs of nutritious food distributed through the Metro CareRing Market

Encouragement to Be Generous

For if the eagerness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has—not according to what one does not have.

I do not mean that there should be
relief for others and pressure on you,

but it is a question of a fair balance between
your present abundance and their need,

so that their abundance may be for your need,
in order that there may be a fair balance.
2 Corinthians 8:12-14 NRSV

Fresh Light

"Today marks the first day of Hanukkah, an eight day holiday for people who observe the Jewish faith.  Like most Jewish holidays, Hanukkah contains elements and traditions which were carried over into the Christian faith.  What I especially like about Hanukkah is the focus on light, which is so important to Christians during the season of Advent when candles are lit each week as we celebrate our season of waiting.  Hanukkah is not about waiting, though. Hanukkah is about celebrating God’s miraculous restoration of the Jewish Temple for worship of God." ~ Commentary by Pastor Bill TeWinkle

Gracious and holy God,
lead us from death to life
from falsehood to truth.

Lead us from despair to hope
 from fear to trust.
Lead us from hate to love
from war to peace.

Let peace fill out hearts, our world, our universe;  through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.
